The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” Coaching is a present-based, results oriented process that utilizes various techniques that are tailored to the individual, such as active listening and questioning models backed by neuroscience, 2) tools and exercises done either in or out of the coaching session, and 3) pulls answers from you rather than give answers to you. The result is that you leave with a plan of action to reach your desired goals, fostering personal growth and clarity.
Our coaches utilize diverse techniques that are tailored to individuals, including cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, mindfulness, and positive psychology approaches. They also utilize active listening and empathetic communication to provide a supportive space for you to explore and achieve personal goals and overcome challenges, fostering personal growth and clarity.
Therapy or counseling is a state licensed profession that directly diagnoses and helps clients navigate mental health challenges. Therapists are authorized to go into a client’s past to help them explore their present. Coaching in contrast, is present-based service that does not diagnose or treat mental illness in any way whatsoever. It is common for those in counseling or therapy to maintain a coaching relationship as long as the goals remain in the coaching sphere.
Consultants and mentors are subject matter experts that are hired exclusively for their advice and insights as they compare their experience with the client. Conversely, a coach is an expert in the coaching process, while the client is the expert in their life, field of study or career. The power of coaching is allowing the client to unpack their own process that allows the neurological benefits of coaching to unfold, resulting in a more sustainable and lasting change for the client.
In the coaching relationship, you can expect to gain clarity on your goals, develop actionable strategies to achieve them, and receive ongoing support and accountability from your coach. Through self-reflection and feedback, you'll increase self-awareness, overcome obstacles, and enhance skills such as communication and decision-making. As you make progress towards your goals, you'll experience increased confidence, motivation, and personal growth. Ultimately, coaching aims to empower you to lead a more fulfilling and purposeful life aligned with your values and aspirations, while fostering positive changes in various aspects of your life.
The number of life coaching sessions someone attends can differ based on the coach and the client's choices. How many sessions are needed and how often they occur often hinges on the client's objectives and the complexity of their concerns. Some clients might opt for a few sessions to tackle goals or issues, while others may decide on ongoing coaching sessions to work on personal growth and life enhancement over a more extended period.
The truth is anyone can benefit from Coaching. Coaching offers invaluable guidance, support, and accountability for individuals striving to achieve their goals and unlock their full potential across different aspects of life. Crucially, success in coaching hinges on the client's clarity regarding their objectives, dedication to the coaching process, and willingness to be held accountable for taking decisive actions towards realizing their aspirations.
